Galentines with Grown Womxn, Good Weed

By Amanda Ferron

Lets go girls… (Said in my best Shania Twain voice)

February brings another amazing Galentines Day event, thrown by the lovely ladies of Grown Womxn, Good Weed. (GWGW) This Sunday, February 4th 2024 from 2pm – 6pm in Sacramento, CA… It’s going down.

I attended their last Galentines event in Sacramento in 2022 with my boss/sister/ forever Galentine, PayRio Founder Aubrey Amatelli. And while that event was SO MUCH fun, this years is sure to be even better. I sat down with one of the “Founding Mothers” of GWGW, my girl Spenta Mehraban aka @smokinspent, to talk about the group, and this years Galentines celebration.

Spenta (@smokinspent)

What is Galentines?!?!

Full disclosure, I had never heard of this Holiday until I started watching Parks and Rec. The perpetually awkward and waffle loving Leslie Knope gathered all her girlfriends together every February 13th for a Galentines Day Brunch. She describes it best really… “What’s Galentine’s Day? It’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style… Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst… Plus frittatas!” And when you celebrate with GWGW, it’s “plus good weed!!”

Galentines Day has really gained traction the last few years, especially in the Cannabis industry. And if you’re lucky enough to live in Northern California, you are not going to want to miss out on the Galentines get-together thrown by GWGW. When it comes to women supporting women, you are hard pressed to find a better event than one put on by these incredible women.

The name says it all, y’all…

I asked Spenta, how did GWGW come to be?

I went to one of their first events back in late 2020… Back then it was ran by the 2 original founders, Anissa Andrade and Katie Jones, and we loved it. A few of us were like ‘How do we get involved!?’ There are 5 of us now: Katie and Anissa of course, Me, Alicia King, and Diana Huynh… We like to call ourselves ‘The Founding Mothers’.” Spenta said with a giggle. “Each one of us comes from a different Cannabis background… We have marketers, people who come from grows and dispatches, photographers… Ladies who have worked with so many different brands… I personally work with Pabst and Hall of Flowers… Just an incredible group of women with these extensive backgrounds.

And one thing we all had in common, was we were all very used to being one of the only, if not the only, women in the room when it came to Cannabis. It was always 1 or 2 of us and 30 dudes. And we have nothing against men, but we just felt like we needed our own safe space where we weren’t the minority, and we could network with like-minded women. We’re not about clicking up, we’re about inclusivity and love, so there’s no drama… It’s just grown women, and good weed!”

Galentines 2024

This Galentines w/ GWGW is sure to be one to remember. They want you to be comfortable, so Spenta says the dress code is definitely “cozy vibes”. (I bought a comfy pink sweatsuit from FashionNova for the occasion, and plan on wearing fuzzy slippers.) The mood will be set by local DJ @djstacelace, and there’ll be lots of fun activations for party goers to enjoy, like:

  • Munchie station featuring scrumptiousness by Charcute-Ari (Sponsored by PayRio! Heeeeyyyy!)
  • Dessert Station
  • Hydration Station (With infused and non-infused options)
  • Infused root beer float station
  • Infused hot chocolate station
  • Friendship bracelet making station (Sponsored by Moody Girl, for you and all the new gal-pals you’re going to make to create memories together!)
  • 2 Masseuses (@bodytheory356 and @pampered.by.pot)
  • Succulent station w/ @jeniqqa, where you can make your own potted succulent to take home

I am probably leaving something out because there are so many dope things to enjoy here! They are also doing a raffle with some incredible prizes from Puffco, including Puffco Peak Pros  and Hot Knives, and a facial by Glo w/ Sarah Tate.  Proceeds from the raffle are going to the Last Prisoner Project, so make sure you get a bunch of tickets! More tickets = more chances to win these awesome Puffco products, and more support for the important work that the Last Prisoner Project team does… It’s a win/win! As an extra bonus, the lineup of Cannabis brands that are sponsoring the evening could make anyone’s eyed red:

If you haven’t already, make sure you visit the Grown Womxn, Good Weed website to apply to the GWGW Social Club. It’s free to join, and you’ll get emails with links to this and their upcoming events.

So ladies, get registered, and use those links to buy your tickets ASAP! Grown Womxn, Good Weed is a spectacular group of women, and it really shows through their lovingly curated events. These functions are such a wonderful way to connect with like-minded women in Cannabis. I’m grateful to GWGW for creating these spaces for us to feel comfortable, come together, and celebrate this divinely feminine plant, and our divinely feminine selves!
